You don’t have to be a ‘church member’ to come and worship with us. You don’t need to bring anything (although we do have an offering option); there is a screen presentation at Maxwelltown West. We have facilities for the disabled in both churches including level access from Rosemount Street for Maxwelltown West, and an induction loop for the hard of hearing. Why not pay us a visit?
For Children & Young People
Max West has the following Uniformed Organisations: Brownies (ages 7 – 11) meet in the Church Hall on Tuesdays at 6.00pm & Guides (ages 10 -14) meet in the Church Hall on Wednesdays at 7.15pm.
For Adults
We have an active Guild branch: monthly meetings (1st Tuesday of the month ) with interesting speakers. The Guild supports national projects at home and abroad. In New Abbey the Guild meets on the last Tuesday of each month.
GOOD COMPANIONS – meet on the first Wednesday of the month in the committee room at 2pm
BADMINTON CLUB – meet on Monday evenings at 7.30pm
The Church of Scotland
The Church of Scotland is a national Church serving the people of Scotland.
If you are a local resident, the services of the church are available to you. You may belong to another Christian tradition, or to another faith; or you may profess no faith at all. We respect everyone’s entitlement to their own views and practices regarding religious faith.
However, as part of a national Church, we have a responsibility to offer “the ordinances of religion” as described below to everyone in our land. This is a responsibility we gladly undertake and the services of your local church are available to you, whether you are a church member or not.
In particular, we offer the following:
WORSHIP SERVICE: Regular worship services, every Sunday. These are open to anyone. There is no charge, although an offering is taken for the Church’s work locally, nationally and in the world.
BAPTISM: Baptism (often described as ‘christening’) is administered to adults who have come to Christian faith, or more usually, to children of professing Christians. Our minister will be pleased to discuss this with you.
WEDDING: Our minister is available to officiate at weddings. Weddings may take place in church or (at the minister’s discretion) elsewhere. The minister will be pleased to meet with you to discuss a forthcoming marriage.
FUNERAL: Our minister will be pleased to officiate at a funeral service for anyone who lives locally. You do not have to be a church member, or even associated with any church, to call upon the minister’s services in this regard. The minister is trained in the conduct of funeral services, and will be willing to help at this difficult time. There is no charge for the minister’s services.
